So piccolo literature is my bread and butter... It's been 14 years since I've performed Bach's Christmas Oratorio... I can't, for the life of me, remember how to play the low g in measure 35 of No. 8 Aria... Can anyone help me out?!?

Bend it down. Just practice it and you can make it work pretty easy.
The real question is...how are you playing the low trills? _________________ -----------------------------------------------------------------

I always just switch to C trumpet for those 4 measures. It is no big deal, just practice switching back and forth. If you have a small C, I would probably use that - otherwise just play with a sound concept that is a natural extension of your piccolo sound.
(I suppose you could also have your third trumpet player play those bars if he/she can be trusted.) |

Thanks all! I ended up bending it down. It almost worked! Had fun either way! |

If you play a Yamaha 4-valve or a Schilke P5-4, simply exchange the third and fourth valve slides. Tune the 1-4 for the low Fs, and tune the 1-2-3-4 for the low Gs. Works pretty well for that movement, Go back to normal valve slide placements for the other movements.
