Hi

I guess there are some tech gurus lurking in here so here it is :

I am on the market for a laptop.
nothing fancy

I am not a gamer

The use for the LT would be mostly to have Finale on it, and having some audio/video too.

No idea what screen size would be the best, nor the weight nor anything I guess.

I dont know if a touch-screen is useful ?

Any infos welcome

Thanks

JiCe

I've used Windows laptops at work for years. Brands are usually Dell, sometimes Lenovo or HP. At home, I use a MacBook Pro. We have a couple of MacBooks in the house for family use.

Some folks prefer either Windows or Mac like it's a holy war, but I don't feel that way. There are differences that anyone should consider when making a choice. It's good to be open-minded and flexible because whatever you choose, you might end up using the other kind at school or work one day.

Comparison
MacBooks work great, are reliable, easy to use, have great-looking high-resolution displays with accurate color. They're more expensive than Windows laptops. The software updates from Apple and 3rd party developers have always been reliable in my experience. Everything just works.

The Windows laptops I've used have lower-resolution displays with less accurate color. You have to load anti-virus software on them. They can be quirky and confusing to use at times. Software updates from Microsoft and 3rd party developers usually work fine, but sometimes they mess things up. I find it necessary to have more patience in working with Windows computers, but one can do good work with them.

Chromebooks are good laptops too, but they use online software over the web. Finale versions are available for both MacOS and Windows but not Chromebook.

If you're more price conscious, I recommend a Windows laptop. If you want a great computer, consider a MacBook (or MacBook Air, or MacBook Pro). Hope this info helps--good luck.

Check the 'system requirements' for the version of Finale you want. And make sure the laptop has plenty of 'harddisk' storage and memory - for running the programs, and for saving the files, especially videos.

Also check the keyboard and 'pointer' operation for whether you are comfortable with it. Some are more difficult to use than others.

Likely, even a low-end Windows 10 would be adequate for what you mentioned. And you will need a fast internet connection to get everything setup and for ongoing download of updates.

I use this Lenovo laptop and I am absolutely thrilled with it:

Touch-screens are useless and more annoying than anything (who wants fingerprints on their monitor????). The Lenovo will run powerful programs with zero effort, and the SSD hard drive means lightning-quick startup. It will run Finale and anything else you need. Superb battery life as well.

I recommend this computer to everyone and even bought it for my parents as a gift so I put my money where my mouth is.

Good luck in your search!
