I've heard said that although the material has great utility, the book doesn't stand alone as a method. That MacBeth didn't succeed at capturing well Maggio's approach.

I don't know that the book claims to be a complete method book. I'm not saying it doesn't, just don't know.

I used the exercises as an auxiliary, mainly for range development. Worked very well for me. Increased my range from a former High C to Double High C.

I must point out, though, that all the hip exercises in the world won't help you very much if your fundamental approach to playing is faulty.

I am making an attempt to play through the first five weeks of the Maggio book. It is a credible approach. I'm not a big fan of extended pedal tones. This book does not go lower than the first pedal C much like Stamp and that seems to work for me.

I also use Caruso, Stamp,Shew stuff, etc. The method is not a stand alone thing much like all of the others. The key is to be smart about what you do.
