|
|
Does anybody know if Allen developed a lesson plan for these three books.
I bought these books a few months ago with the possibility to use them for teaching intermediate type players.
There are other methods but I do like Allen’s material and layout.
It’s not too big a deal to develop a lesson plan, but if Allen has done this already, it would save me some time.
Thanks.
Cheers

I don't know of a lesson plan, but I worked through the three volumes with my teacher and it was a very positive experience and my playing benefitted a great deal because of it.
My teacher had me working through the book with an assignment from each of the sections in each of the books. Some took me longer to progress through than others.
Have you contacted Mr. Vizzutti to ask him your question? |

Thanks much for your reply.
Allen did email me back yesterday and he did say he never developed a suggested lesson plan.
However in he did suggest, just as your teacher did, to give an assignment of each of the sections of the book. That is fact how I thought to use it.
Of course, as you said, some students will take longer. So as always, I will let the progress and level of the student be the guide.
Thanks again for your reply.
Cheers,

Here is the exact email exchange between Allen and me after I ordered his last books:
Quote: | Allen,
I am getting ready to start using your Trumpet Method books 1,2,3 for teaching some intermediate high school students. I wonder if you ever developed a suggested lesson plan for these books.
Thanks much.
Best Regards,
Harry Hilgers
Harry,
Sorry to say I have not developed a study guide. So muster your common sense and don’t be afraid to present techniques to new or younger players that might seem advanced such as multiple tonguing. Also encourage frequent short rests. Feel free to use sections of the books as needed out of order.
Good luck,
Allen |
Indeed, very courteous and very cool.
And apparently he did all this while traveling.
Cheers,
Harry
PS I should add that other well-known trumpet players, that have always responding on my mails are Greg Spence, Lynn Nicholson and, back in the snail-mail days, Claude Gordon. The latter was a communication when my, then high-school, oldest son and I were getting ready for Claude’s one week Trumpet camp in Idlewild, California, where he with Doc Severinsen gave us a few master classes.
Imagine 40 trumpet players playing, in the woods at Idlewild, the four voices of fanfare of the common man. Above all you could pick out Claude and Doc. |

As I recall (it's been a while), most exercises aren't particularly difficult. I might hesitate to use these for total beginners, but all others will find a lot of good drills here. I got a lot of mileage out of the first three books before I found my way to my first lessons. What struck me is that they really helped me to get all around on the horn in a way that wasn't particularly taxing, particularly when compared to many other method books. I also found the exercises to be more engaging and satisfying than many. _________________ "I'm an engineer, which means I think I know a whole bunch of stuff I really don't."

The books state on the front cover they are "An Intermediate/Advanced Method".
The students I am talking about are indeed definitely not beginners.
Most have progressed into the Advanced Rubank Vol 1 book and the equivalent Arban material.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,

To the best of our knowledge at Groth Music, there is not system for them. We do have a few teachers that use them for high school students, especially for solidifying scales.
