Hey Kids... Never thought I'd say this but after a brief 40ish year recess I've started blowing into that damned trumpet again! I've had plans for at LEAST 20 years to make a lamp out of my horn but just never got around to it!

I started to get that gleam in my eyes over that past few months, as the band I work with had a horn section change and I've been listening to to these 'subs' and thinking... 'hey, it might be fun to break that old rusty horn out'... then I'd come to my senses!! Haha!

Then it happened... a musician friend called me up about a gig and asked... "Hey, you don't have a trumpet do ya??"... so there was the challenge!!

So anyway it's been a few weeks and I've been having more fun than i remember! Got some "new' valves for my student clunker, bought a 40's Courtois flugelhorn, a Chinese pocket trumpet off of Amazon, then today I sprung for a late 30's Reynolds Trumpet from eBay.

So far I haven't been able to locate my old method books but there's enough stuff on youtube to keep me busy for awhile!!

I've been poking around the forums trying to 'catch up' a bit and wanted to say
hi before I bombard you all with silly questions!! So here it is... HI!!

Welcome back to the world of chafed chops, mouthpiece safaris, and endless debate over the merits of buzzing, range building, and how much music theory Chet Baker knew. We missed you!

Well all I can say is that I've been having a ball so far! Only problem is that I've started acquiring horns and accessories at an alarming rate!!

Be careful. I got up to 40 some horns at one point. Not as bad as a guy I know who has 172 but bad enough for my wife to suggest the need for an intervention.

I'm now down to eight but there's one in the Marketplace that's calling my name.

Oh, the guy with 172 (maybe more by now):

Well thanks for the warm welcome... kinda feels like home!!

172 horns!!!?? WOW!!! Unfortunately I can relate, as i have 60ish guitars (time for a sell-off to make some trumpet room!) and a bunch of other instruments... This could spell trouble!!! Haha!

I have three horns and my wife thinks that's too many.

I too have started back after 40 years of not playing. Was playing a Bach Strad but sold after college. So only had my OLD Conn/Ralph Kenney made in 1916 - and played it for a little while. The valves were leaking very badly. Wanted to get an Adams Prologue, but didn't want to pay the price. Then purchased a Eastman ert522, pretty nice. On par with the John Packer horns with the Smith Watkins leadpipe.

I was able to find a number of methods online for free:
Arban, Clark, Caruso, etc.
