I just saw a YouTube ad for a wedge mouthpiece. A guy says he's a doctor in Canada makes them.
,
Anyone tried one?

They've been around for quite some time. I have one and it's extremely comfortable and plays well. You can try one in plastic if you want to give it a shot without spending a lot of money. I'm very happy with mine, although I do play several different pieces depending on the situation.

I've been using one successfully now for about 2 years. They offer a 90 day trial period where you can return it for an exchange or a refund if the mp doesn't work for you. The most comfortable mp I have ever used. The biggest thing it did for me was increase my endurance. There are all kinds of professional players testimonials on the website.

The owner is a doctor as well as a trumpet player.

I've been using them for almost 15 years now. Totally changed playing for the better. By far the best choice I've made. I'll never go back to a normal rim.
Dr. Dave is great to work with and his trial policy is second to none.

Better range, better tone, better endurance.

I switched over to Wedge mouthpieces 8 years ago, and have never seriously considered changing. It was a strange but not unpleasant feeling at first, and everything immediately got a little bit better for me, and aside from needing to adjust to a new feeling, I didn't have any downsides.

Just tried the Wedge recently. Beautiful mouthpiece, expertly machined (if that is the right term) and awesome return policy. The weight and balance was very satisfying. But the shape didn’t quite work for me due to my facial structure and embouchure setup, I think. It put a little too much pressure on my upper lip. But worst case is that you’re out 12 bucks or so (cost of shipping back) if it doesn’t work for you. If you’re curious, I’d recommend giving it a try. Didn’t work for me but I’m glad I tried it.

Yes, the Wedge isn't for everyone, but some don't give it a fair trial.

I messed up at first myself but soon realized I was not lining up the dot with my chops properly. There is some leeway there but too much one way or the other and things won't work right.

Now after a little more than 2 years, and even after going back to my Bach 5C and the 3C for a bit I quickly realized nothing worked better than my 65MD Wedge. It is now my mp for the rest of my life.

I love mine. My daughter tried all mouthpieces in my mouthpiece collection (Wedge 67, Yamaha 16E, DW4, DW3B, JP603 4B, Besson 7) and also prefer to play with Wedge, so I have just placed another order for her. However, my son find no significant benefit to the Wedge mouthpiece and instead plays the Besson 7.

I am recently transitioning to Wedge after spending some effort looking for comfortable mpcs with small diameters. I have been playing a Callet SC 1ss (0.582") which works well for me but I have purchased several other pre-owned mpcs in that size range to see if there is something I like better.

Long story short, the only other mouthpiece that compares well with the Callet is a Wedge 59S top which I have now been playing for a month. The Wedge top is comfortable and generates a rich sound - improvements in endurance and range are TBD. I decided to transition to using Wedge tops exclusively and have since ordered a deeper trumpet top and a cornet top. The bad news for me is that 59 size tops are custom orders and not subject to the return policy.

Just take care to insert the mouthpiece correctly (for its Wedge orientation) into your receiver and leave it there.

This occurred a few years back. I first put the mouthpiece in according to the directions and played it. Didn't like it at all; then rotated it an eighth turn or so and tested again. Didn't like it. Repeated this maybe a dozen turns or so and finally liked it. I looked at the directions and realized that my set-up was upside down. Thought I was doing something wrong. I stupidly tried the mouthpiece a few more days this way; with the same result.

I returned it and was charged a huge amount (don't remember the amount but it was more than the cost of a Bach mouthpiece.) for damage to the shank.

My advice to you: if you don't like it the first time; return it immediately!

I've used a Wedge exclusively on trumpet since 2008. It's worth giving it a try. I'd recommend contacting Dave and getting his recommendations for a piece. His refund policy speaks for the success of his mouthpieces--no one else matches it.

Hi, Dave, even though I've been using my Wedge for 2 years, I still have times when I don't align the dot in the correct orientation, and even if it is just off a smidgen, it can affect my rather touchy 84 year old chops. Any tips on how to get it right every time ?

I don't understand how the Wedge oval should go on your chops. Do you place the longer axis of the oval in a horizontal position or in vertical orientation? thax

Longer axis is vertical. There is a dot on all mouthpieces so you know which way is up.

Yeah, there's a dot on the top and bottom. Most don't have any problems lining things up but with my embouchure, maybe because of my age, the dot has to be dead center on my chops. Just a little to the left or right can foul up my tone. That's why I was asking walldaja if he had any tips on getting it right every time I play.
