I need some suggestions for fun, maybe flashy solos for trumpet with orchestra (where the orchestral accompaniment likely is still available). I am aware of Goedicke Concert Etude, Anderson Trumpeter's Lullaby, Virgen de la Macarena, and others that are more sophisticated than I need. Any thoughts? _________________ Peter Comerford

Carnival of Venice and Fantaisie Brilliante by Arban are incredible solos, as mentioned previously. |

An alternative to the Carnival of Venice is Arban’s variations on a Tyrolean song. It’s a little more “accessible” for the player, shall we say though maybe not as much of a crowd pleaser as Venice
You could also look at taking something that’s been arranged with a different solo instrument and rewriting it for trumpet.
Off the top of my head the following are good “flashy” trumpet solos.
Falla’s Asturias
Hora Staccato
Tarantella Napoletana
Sabre Dance
Grand Russian Fantasia

The Bohme is flashly, fun, and challening. I would recommend it. |
