I've been catching up on my blogging. I've been very busy launching my new Podcast, "Duets From The Trenches: Musicians You Should Know" and laid off blogging for a month or so. The podcast is up and running (two episodes are up and number three will drop by Monday - uploading later today). If you check them out, the average run time of the show is one hour, fyi.
Now, to the point. I've been studying videos of folks who do the EXTREME upper register - well beyond DHC. I've recently written TWO blogs on the matter. One is on my notes from Lynn Nicholson's video, "Got High Notes," available for very reasonable fees on Vimeo. The other is on the St. Louis school of upper register, the work of Jim Manley and Zach Hall. Here are the links:

I've been experimenting with my own chops. By and large I'm generally quite solid up to D/DHC with an occasionally Eb/DHC, and while that sort of range is way more than enough for virtually any real gig out there, I can't help the urge to keep horsing around with still more range.
These are just my notes taken as I studied the videos. check out the vids yourselves (I'll bet most you have already) and see what YOU think.
That's it for today.
Peace.
