George Benson, known in Detroit as George Sax Benson, passed away last week at the age of 90. He was a consummate jazz artist and a gentle classy gentleman. Here is George with our big band:

Man he sounded amazing! Total authentic hardbop, coming straight out of guys like Hank Mobley and Sonny Rollins. Detroit sure had some great saxophonists, my dear friend and mentor Larry Smith is another that comes to mind!
