I saw Bria Skonberg with Monterrey Jazz Festival on Tour last night. While that band is truly a collaborative effort where everyone gets their moments in the spotlight, she was the best part of it to me and the audience members around me.

I was aware of her, but I'd never listened to any of her material. I downloaded her "With a Twist" album and have been enjoying it all day.

I would love to see her with her band, doing her set list. She is a very capable vocalist, as well as playing the heck out of the trumpet.

Take care,
Marc Speed

She's a great player, with great "trad jazz" chops.

And she plays a Bach 43 trumpet, so she has to be good.

I speculated that it was a 43. I was too far from the stage to see details, but all the pictures I have seen of her show her playing a Bach. Her tone was fairly bright - pleasantly so. That bright, crisp tone led me to guess that it was a 43 rather than a 37 or a 72.

Take care,

She's played a 43 for years, but recently picked up a 37 and has been playing that as well. Sounds great with either horn.
