Did King ever make the balanced version of the Silver Sonic Super 20 Symphony, like the one Harry James played, for the general public? |

I might be mistaken, but I think Tony Scodwell might have one of those, I seem to remember he had it for sale in the marketplace.

During the 1970's, I bought two Harry James model balanced Kings.
You had to get permission from Harry or Frank Pee Wee Monte in order to get one.
They never sold them as a catalog item. _________________ Chuck Par-Due

What about the horns Harry sold at shows and dealer demos. I heard this from a dealer source who was quite a big King dealer at one time. There is a gold plated one where I live that I’ve played 3-4 times over the years and it’s never been out of the dealers hands and has all the paperwork as being sold to them by King. It’s a very good horn and I might buy it if I could keep from banging my lips on the mp. It’s for sale on Reverb and I think about 7000$ but I’m not sure. I can vouch it’s a very good horn - not the equal of my Eclipse which would cost about the same but this has some provenance. Great looking new horn in gold plate which I was told is fairly not overly ra4e.

Yes it is. I saw the horn right after they got it and it and the case are still like new. If you are looking for it as a player you can do better, but as a combo of rare, good playing, and a bit special it may be a good buy. I personally like old stuff even if it’s notna daily player.

I held that horn in 2016. They wanted a lot more, but I told them $7000 was the most they could expect.
It was actually made by Benge/Kanstul for King. _________________ Chuck Par-Due

No, I got one of those made at the same time. I did not like it as well as my 1972 King. _________________ Chuck Par-Due

I have my original 66 silver flair and think it’s the best horn King ever made and I’ve owned quite a few. I don’t know why anyone would buy a non HN WHITE King they weren’t same quality as the early horns. But even these horns don’t touch the best available today. Gorbys does have the mini trumpet made for Edna White tho, don’t know if it’s for sale but that’s as rare as duck hair.

My 1952 King Super 20/Symphony/Silversomic plays better than either of my 1970's made Kings. _________________ Chuck Par-Due

Bob McCoy had one back in the day. He said it was one of four. Played an F scale perfectly in tune without moving any slides. I thought it was possessed. |

This has something on it that identifies it as made for Edna HN’s wife. I haven’t had the privelege of playing it but it also is said to be a fully functional in tune instrument. It looks like the nicest toy ever made.

Hey guys, I appreciate all your stories and comparisons. What I need to know is if a balanced model was available to the general public and if so, if there are any out there. |

According to the description of the one at Gorby's, this particular instrument was purchased directly from the King factory, something the general public could not easily have done, and according to the description "it should never been offered for sale". So, again my question, barring this particular instrument, was the Harry James model balanced King Silver Sonic Super 20 Symphony available to the general public? It has been suggested that one could be specially ordered from the factory. Can anyone confirm this? |

ONLY with the permission of Harry James and Frank Pee Wee Monte, could a person purchase a Harry James model trumpet.
Keep in mind that after 1969, the Harry James model trumpets were not Super 20/Symphony/Silversonic horns.
No more Super 20 valve blocks or Sterling Silver bells. _________________ Chuck Par-Due
