Hello - I wonder if anyone can help.
I currently play on 3 Warburton tops with a modified bach 37
4SV - Heavy lead
4MC - Commercial playing
4MD - Jazz and legit
I use a combination of 5* and 7 backbores depending what I'm playing.
I really love the sound and control of the 4MD but i feel it's just a little too big and dark if I'm soloing on a big band gig, it just doesn't quite cut through enough or give me enough support up top. annoying i have the opposite problem with the 4MC, great up top but not enough control and slightly too bright - What i really need is something in between the 4MD and the 4MC - but there isn't anything!
The 4MV looks like a possibility but from what I've read and spoken with Warburton it is even smaller in cup size than the 4M so it's probably not going to work.
Anyone got any suggestions - a mouthpiece with a cup smaller than a MD but bigger/darker than an MC , happy to try other brands and products. I love the feel of Warburton rims so something that feels similar.
Thanks so much for any help. _________________ www.thefullfathorns.co.uk |

A larger backbore with the 4MC might do it. I used to use a 4MC with a 10 backbore on my C trumpet. Years ago I used a 9* for legit and a 7 for commercial with a 4MC on a Bach 25L. Ben Smalley (RIP) turned me on to that combo. |
