A whole lot of potential talent in a tiny package. I'd be proud, too, if she were my daughter.

Well, it is in a gymnasium so maybe that makes it sound nice. But my daughters and I all sound the same. We play fairly deep mouthpieces. The elder daughter's concert band director said she needs to narrow her sound because it's too spread out.

And the one in the video is using a Reynolds 7A mp, which is pretty deep.

I have come to take just about everything a band director says with several lofty sized grains of salt.

With regards to the video -
She sounds great. I am very very impressed with her sense of pitch.
In all honesty a cup size(not rim, but depth) shallower might be a good idea. She could sound more 'trumpetty' rather than 'cornetty'. But that is neither here nor there.

Wish I played that well at 9!

I'll give the band director the benefit of the doubt and assume they mean to be helpful. Is this band director a trumpet player? While I'm sure their sound can improve that's a cryptic comment - did they have any specific tips on what your daughter should do or did they leave it at that?
