|
|
When I do a Lip Clamp, I notice that my lip line is a little above the opening that I find when I do the Tongue-on-the-Lips.
In order to place the lips in the same position as I do when tonguing on the lips, I need to lower my embouchure position a little and even, subconsciously, to push the jaw forward a little.
Is this normal? Should I leave the lips a little higher when clamping/squeaking or should I lower the lip line so that it lines up when I tongue on the lips? Thanks. _________________ "If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn." Bird

It is completely normal to move the lips down from the Lip Clamp position when playing.
The Lip Clamp position is only intended to give a player a way to experience the "feel" of rolling in the lips. There are a surprising number of players who struggle to roll in the lips at all. The Lip Clamp position as described in the book was arrived at by years of experiments over a wide range of student population.
