Has anybody else seen this? I'm unsure if another musician has tried to design an electronic valve instrument using a brass instrument mouthpiece, "buzzed" like the real thing. Even the legendary Steiner EVI was end-blown like a woodwind instrument.

It's a conceptual design at this point. _________________ Enjoy the journey. |

Just add the proper leadpipe, valves and slides and it will be very nice. |

A typical effort to raise funds to feed yourself via a concept which lacks one very important thing: a reason for existing. The aim to enhance learning, performance and music innovation is all well and good, but there is nothing about what is wring or they aim to resolve. Nor is there any indication as to how this concept do this enhancing...
for example...
LEDs on the valve buttons? Ah, how does one SEE them while playing?
And there, I think we can rest our case and let this one go to the keeper, as the civilised people say.
cheers

Seems like a dumb idea to me.

The most interesting part of the concept proposal for me was the idea of using a brass instrument mouthpiece "buzzed" like it's supposed to. Most EVIs I have seen either use standard wind instrument technique coupled with an advanced breath controller, or, like the Yamaha EZ-TPT, a pitch-to-MIDI system coupled with a kazoo or mirliton technique. _________________ Enjoy the journey. |

That does make it one step better than the other midi controllers, but for me buzzing mouthpiece alone or with a leadpipe isn't very helpful.
If the proposal can model the feel of the resonant frequencies vibrating the air column then, in my opinion, they would have something. |

I'm unsure if that level of feedback will ever be possible for any kind of EVI. Then again, I'm not a physicist. I guess some folks can counter-argue that an EVI should not be expected to feel exactly an acoustic instrument. I do agree with you; the shortcoming you pointed out certainly reduces the value of the proposed design as a training tool. _________________ Enjoy the journey. |
