I've come across some good trumpet playing (not to mention good musicians on other instruments) in video games recently, particularly some Japanese games.

Phantom R's theme (from Rhythm Thief) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Je1nL5y2qUg

The Real Chevalier Diabolique (from Rhythm Thief) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tRGcKJPke6E

Battle III (from Unlimited SaGa) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y8SpqPpjh1o

Composers are Tomoya Ohtani and Masashi Hamauzu. No idea who the trumpet players are, but it seems Japan has a lot of great players.

Going off on a tangent, what are your favorite Japanese trumpeters, BESDIES Eric Miyashiro? I'm afraid my knowledge is lacking.

If anyone knows of any video game music with trumpets they'd like to share, post it here. Then again, most people on these forums are 40+ years old and thus were never raised on video games, so I doubt anyone here has anything to share.... plus real trumpets are rarely prominently featured in game music in the first place (low music budgets). I just wanted to provide something new to share.

Ahem...old trumpet players were young once.

Video game music has become a new genre in our lifetime. Not long ago a community band I used to be a part of did a concert based on it. Vis:

Young Padawan knows not when Pong came out. Or Space Invaders. Or Qix!

Glad something out there isn't a synthesizer ... thanks for sharing

Gerard Prescencer plays some incredible trumpet on the soundtrack to Rockstar's L.A. Noire. Definitely worth playing, it's been remastered for current gen systems.

Mic Gillette did a lot of video game soundtracks. He laid down tuba, bass bone, trombone, horn and trumpet tracks on a lot of the James Bond games.

I can recall that L.A. Noire had the trumpet very prominently placed in the opening screen.
In general, any game-adaptation from a movie where they use orchestral music usually has the same soundtrack for the game. Any lord of the rings or Star Wars game for example. James Bond was mentioned already.
I think that the first few Medal of Honor and Call of Duty games had orchestral music as well. Those that are in WW2.

So, yeah, I've been aware of the soundtrack for a game called Bravely Default, relased on the Nintendo 3DS. There is a lot of trumpet on it, even though I don't really know the soundtrack that well.

Now, I'd be shocked if any of you actually liked the music (though I like it, personally), but I just recently learned that Eric Miyashiro was involved with the soundtrack! (plus other trumpet and brass players) There are a ton of other musicians involved, too. Since Eric's group is listed first, and that Eric is listed first among the trumpet player, I suspect Eric may actually be the first trumpet in the majority of the music. (though I don't know... perhaps some of you know Eric's playing well enough that you tell whether it's him or not?)

Mario Kart 8 has live tracks through the whole game. I just leave the end credit scene playing, so I can hear Eric Miyashiro nail the ending of the tune.
