Can anyone give some information about these mouthpieces?
They have always been famous for Trombon, but every time I see them more in trumpeters (classical, jazz, commercial music ...) and many of them of respected name. I have read that your distribution and customer service is bad, but very little how your mouthpieces react.

Great mouthpieces, but you might not get it for 5 or 10 years.... if ever.

Never bought any new. Asked him a question once and never heard back, and only heard not great things previously. That was enough for me.

But I love the 8*O backbore that I have!

I know lots of people have had problems ordering with Greg. Or, even getting responses via email. That’s frustrating and not great business.

I will say, he definitely caters to many of the best trombone players in the world. Seems to be the biggest component of his business.

He is as good of a mouthpiece maker and craftsman as anyone. Maybe the very best at copying mouthpieces. Everything done by hand. No cnc’s for him.

Currently Van Laar Trumpets & Flugelhorns located in the Netherlands is Greg’s European dealer. You can contact them directly for an appointment to try Greg Black mouthpieces.

At East Coast Trumpets we stock Greg’s full line of trumpet, flugelhorn and cornet mouthpieces. During the past two years as a dealer we have had zero issues with order fulfillment or communication. We cannot speak for issues customers have had previous with Greg Black Mouthpieces. We have worked very closely with Greg on revamping customer service and the rebranding of his business in the recent past due to issues caused when relocating the business to NC combined with personal lost/private issues.

If you have any questions about these amazing mouthpieces feel free to email us at INFO@EASTCOASTTRUMPETS.COM and we will be more than happy to help.

I am so excited that East Coast Trumpets has started stocking Greg Black mouthpieces. This is truly a great solution - in the past, Greg has been doing it all. He is a one-man operation and truly one of the hardest working people I know. He is in the shop all day, 7 days a week.

Many orders get put on the back burner due to the fact that he keeps tight quality control over all the work he does. From what I understand, nothing is farmed out, except for plating. That said, with East Coast helping fulfill orders and take care of the business side of things, hopefully going forward Greg will be able to get more shipments out, and sooner.

I bought a used Greg Black 5C used from the market place. It's a great mouthpiece overall. The blank is a tad heavy and the sound is really even across the registers but compared to my Vincent Bach Corp. 5C and Laskey 60C, the sound is slightly edgy.

I used to really enjoy McGovnor's comments, particularly on mouthpieces. If I recall correctly, regarding these mouthpieces he said something like, 'He's got the hands...'.
If McGovnor liked his stuff - it had to be good.

I only played one Reeves piece (42sv/69) for a fairly short time. I felt the rim
was on the thin side and pretty uncomfortable to me.
The GB rim is medium wide according to the website and feels much better! I
play on his CS cup for more legit work and his NY series for commercial gigs.
The NY rims have a wider outside diameter which are extremely comfortable
and the convex V cup is great for range, endurance, and flexibility, IMHO...

I find GB rims extremely comfortable, both the standard and the NY series.

In light of some of the comments above (including my own), I wanted to mention that Greg now has someone handling order fulfillment and customer service for him. I recently ordered a piece online and received a prompt reply and tracking info from Benjamin Strickland, his new sales manager. This is great news.

All mouthpieces are still hand made to order. Due to the current global pandemic we are currently 2-3 weeks to ship orders after they are processed. Feel free to contact the shop M-Sat 10am-5pm for details. 980-277-8195, info@gregblackmouthpieces.com
