Wow, hadn't seen him in a few years, hoping to again, bummer. R.I.P. _________________ "After silence, that which best expresses the inexpressible, is music" - Aldous Huxley

In the early sixties Jim was a Getzen artist and "The Happy Jazz Band" played in San Antonio at the club called "The Landing". Jim's father, also named Jim, founded a company called Pace Picante. Our good friend at Getzen, Sandy Sandberg, would receive frequent shipments of chile ingredients from Jim and I was fortunate to be invited many times to Sandy and Ruth's house for "Uncle Sandy's Corn Chile". In Wisconsin back then, chile ingredients were quite rare and the people invited were the likes of Bill Bell, Lewis Van Haney and Otto, the Meinl tuba rep that Getzen distributed. Bell and Van Haney were professional consumers of adult beverages and Otto being German...well let's just say he kept up. Sandy would cook up his famous chile and put out the other hot stuff Jim had sent and of course, everybody thought they could handle it. After a "bit" of liquid refreshment I felt there was nothing I couldn't handle but whatever was in those cans of preserved peppers blew my taste buds out.
Jim played his rear off to the end and was always faithful to the music he loved.

I used to listen to "Live From the Landing" every Saturday on the UNT radio station. Always fun stuff--often he had guest stars like Clark Terry. _________________ Bryan Fields
