Just saw a post on Getzen's Facebook page about the new 800DLX cornet:
https://www.facebook.com/getzencompany/photos/rpp.152060984827988/2727063090661085/?type=3&theater
Not much info about the horn itself other than the first five "non-prototypes" are built and ready. It appears to have been developed in collaboration with Jonathan Corry (who is now based in Chicago, I believe).
I probably won't have a chance to try one before ITG 2020, but I am eagerly anticipating that![/url] |

.462” bore
Sheet & sheet rose brass bell
Sterling silver lead pipe with a new pipe/tuning slide wrap
Bronze valve section with nickel silver balusters
New crowned top and bottom caps
Art Deco engraving
Cornet sized Deluxe case
Anything else you want to know? There are a few TH members that have played them. Maybe they’ll chime in.
You can always come to Elkhorn instead of waiting till ITG. _________________ Brett Getzen

Is this the 800 Eterna wrap or the 3850 wrap? |

Modified 800 wrap. The 800 Deluxe uses a shorter casing and different bracing for a much inproved response over the standard 800. Rather than leave the tuning slide hanging over an inch below the casing we canted the slide and return crook up for a slimmer profile. _________________ Adam R. Getzen

This is very sad news because it could force me into buying an even better cornet. |

Adam,
Thank you! The standard 800 is fantastic - makes one wonder how much better can the DLX get! |

Honestly, the 800DLX is above and beyond the 800. An even bigger improvement than either Deluxe trumpet over their predecessor.
For my ears, the traditional 800 Eterna has always been the #1 sounding Getzen cornet. I sat in one day during development while our team was play testing the 800DLX against an 800 and a 3850. The Deluxe sounded so much better I actually asked if there was something wrong with the 800 being played. There wasn’t.
That’s really saying something when you consider the lifespan, popularity, and sales history of the 800 Eterna. Adam and Jim have come up with something truly special. _________________ Brett Getzen

My King with sterling bell timbre was bright; my horn(s) with rose brass/cu bell dark. Can you talk about why / what mixing the two accomplishes? Thanks, _________________ Been here before...

Not a universal thing, really. I can't speak to any other horn and what would work for their designs. I can only describe what worked for us on this model.
For Jim and I coming off the 900 and 907 Deluxe models we really liked the timbre of the sterling lead-pipes and their dynamics. The rose bell does in this case help soften some of the higher dynamic edge you can get from the sterling pipe but doesn't "dull" the low register as much as the copper bell would have. _________________ Adam R. Any chance we can get some more pictures showing the profile of the horn?

Will players be able to customize the horn like the 800 model? Is .462 the only bore size offered? Can you get a copper bell?
Or, is the horn meant to be taken as configured?
Do you expect it to appeal more to brass band type players or jazz players--or a general audience? |

The Deluxe models are all fixed with the only options being finish. This horn is much more dynamic in terms of timbre and play than either the standard 800 and the BBB friendly 3850. Whether or not a player will think it is appropriate for that use is up to them. From what I've heard during testing though I'd say yes. _________________ Adam R. Getzen
