Hello!
I bought a very good book from Hickman music last week and used my creditcard. Right after my card was hacked from Blizzard EU 534. about 20 small transactions were made. Anyone else with the same experience?

No problems here.

Most hacked credit cards are re-sold on the dark web so the date of the actual hack can be quite a bit before a fraudulent use.

In general, the criminal economy is specialized like the general economy: there are specialists in hacking cards and selling numbers, and specialists in using hacked card numbers they bought. These are very different skill sets, so the economics lead to specialization.

Sorry for your experience. I just got notification my credit card was exposed by a vendor’s getting hacked and a new card is on its way.

I suggest you bring this to Dave Hickman’s attention. I don’t know Dave personally but based on what I know he wouldn’t be a willing party. He posts on here as trpt.hick and you can PM him.

edit: note that the bank didn't tell me whose site was hacked. I haven't purchased anything from Dave in months so I am sure that wasn't what happened to me.

Thanks for the head's up. I am having my web guy look into this, but I do have a secure site. Card numbers are not visible to anyone, including me. I get dozens of orders each day, and have not heard of any problems.

Claes,

My web guy says all is OK with my web site, and that it is 100% secure. He told me that most often the customer's own computer has been hacked, and that when a cc transaction is done after that point, the hacker can read the digits typed. He then sells this information to one or more people who use the card all over the world as quickly as possible until the card is deactivated.

I am sorry this happened to you.

Dave

The hack could have been done anywhere at any time, I had a card that I only used twice, once in Budapest and once in Singapore, three years later it was used to purchase $900 worth of tickets in a Spanish lottery. My provider cancelled the transaction and cancelled the card.

Regards, Stuart.

While retailer sites can be hacked, there are many more points along the line of a purchase that can expose financial info like a CC number to hackers. It could be a keystroke logger on your computer, something listening on the network where you made the purchase (especially if it's a public network like at a coffee shop, store, or library or something), even your home network, or any number of other things.

It's easy to assume that the last place that you used a CC is where it was stolen, but that's not always the case.
