Hello-
Is there an online software (free is possible) that you can type in some notes (whole, quarter, half, etc. ) and it can play back the notes?
Thank you

I use either MuseScore or EasyABC. EasyABC is free. MuseScore can be used for free or you can purchase a subscription.
There's also this https://abcjs.net/abcjs-editor.html and this https://www.mandolintab.net/abcconverter.php.

My pleasure!
Here's an example of ABC format configured to play back in a B-flat trumpet voice:
Code: | X:1
T:Little Drops of Water
M:6/8
L:1/8
K:C
%%MIDI program 56
%%MIDI transpose -2
Gc | ezc ezc | (e3 c)Gc | ezc ezc | G2 z zGc | ezc ezc |
(e3 c)zz | cec GzG | c2 z z :: GG | G2 c G2 c | (e3 c)zz |
(e2 g) (c2 e) | G2 z zGG | G2 c G2 c | (e3 c)zz | cec GzG | c2 z z :|] |

+1
There are roughly a quadrillion apps that have a keyboard GUI you can play on a PC, phone, etc. Just search and find one you like. _________________ "After silence, that which best expresses the inexpressible, is music" - Aldous Huxley |

Well i did just download MuseScore. I need to go thru the tutorials and try it out. I'll write back here in a few days of how things go. Thanks for all replies. Very much appreciated. _________________ Mark Eaton |

EasyABC is very convenient to use for single line melodies--once you've learned how to enter notes and other musical symbols in ABC format.
MuseScore is excellent for multi-voice/part scores but it has a steep learning curve. I've never tried this feature of MuseScore but it can score music entered in on a midi device. This would be very handy for someone who has a midi keyboard. |

I use Musescore and have gotten the hang of it after a lot of help file reading. I've only done single-line pieces though. I did ABC years ago and might return to it now that I know what its called. _________________ 1938 Martin Handcraft Imperial #2 bore, 38 bell

I agree that many if not all the notation softwares have steep learning curves. But even Finale Notepad (free last I checked) should have a startup wizard that lets you...
- name a piece
- chose the meter, tempo and key from menus
- chose instrument(s)
Then for simple melodies all you have to do is click on the note or rest value from the toolbar and click where on the staff you want it placed. Follow that with plus (+) or minus (-) for accidentals. I find this Simple Note Entry method the most straight forward. _________________ "I'm an engineer, which means I think I know a whole bunch of stuff I really don't."

Noteflight is the most intuitive notation software I’ve used. It’s 100% online and the free version works well. The paid subscription is relatively cheap as well. |

A lot of phone apps can do this. Try searching for "Musicnotes". It's available on Apple and Android devices. I just think it's the easiest to use. There are also web apps that can do this. |
