Hi everyone! First post on here. I’m researching my rep pieces for my graduate recital and I can not find any information on one of my pieces so I thought I’d use the internet hive-mind to try to dig some up!

I’m performing the Willy/Vassily Brandt First Concertpiece in F minor. I know it was written in 1910, while he was teaching at the Moscow Conservatory. And it was before the orchestral etude book was written. (Which surprises me because #31 and #34 take near-direct quotes from the piece.

But, I can’t seem to find the reason as to why the Concertpieces were written. Were they for a specific student? Are they basically some equivalent of French Contest Pieces? There has to be some reasoning for it out there!!

Thanks so much!
