Waiting on the arrival of a Getzen 800 cornet. Has anyone that played this cornet notice if it plays better using a certain mouthpiece? _________________ King 603 cornet

Whatever feels good and doesn't make it sound like a trumpet. Deeper is usually better. What types of situations do you plan to use it for? _________________ Bryan Fields

The 800 comes in ML and MLP bore (large bore). I own a ML bore 800.
Go for a short shank mp with a deep cup, Wick no letter should sound ok. I play a Yamaha 14E (short shank) and for me that’s a better combination than the Wick Heritage 4 I formerly played, but that is me. |

I got to use an Eterna 800 in college with symphonic band and I loved the horn. When I made a seat in band the horn had a 5C Bach in the case and my trumpet teacher, who was a Schilke guy gave me one that was like 14d or e in depth that the college bought for the horns? This is just memory!. I like a deeper mpc. with the cornet. I thought it helped me progress miles and miles n my technical development and was the most fun to play, I still have an Eterna 800 on my bucket list at 69. anything a little deeper with pretty good width should feel comfy. Today there are many great mouthpiece makers, enjoy. _________________ "There are two sides to a trumpeter's personality,

Received the cornet yesterday. Thanks for all your insights. Feel it is to soon to buy another mouthpiece. Sounds great with the Getzen 5 C and Bach 2 mouthpieces. _________________ King 603 cornet

I usually play my LB Eterna on a GR Sparx 3 or 4 Soloist. The Sparx 3 has the fattest sound! _________________ Umberto -

The Getzen 800 is a versatile cornet. I've seen them used for Clarke cornet features, in community band sections, in regional and community symphonies, in trad jazz groups, and I'm aware they're used in brass bands.
All of which suggests to me they work well with a wide assortment of mouthpieces. I think you should look for the type of mouthpiece best suited for the type of playing you plan on using your cornet for (or the types of mouthpieces best suited for the types of intended playing), and choose whatever works best.
Perhaps you can tell us: What sort of playing do you have in mind for your new cornet? _________________ J. Notso Nieuwguyski |
