Does anybody know the difference between a (Getzen) marching trombone and a bass trumpet? I mean important differences like sound, playability and so on.

I can't speak for the Getzen, but ... I have an Olds marching trombone, a Reynolds valve trombone and a Jinbao bass trumpet. All are similar, each is completely different.
Marching trombones tend to be more conical than bass trumpets, and the wrap is such that the bell (which is larger) is closer to your face, which allows you to hear it better. feedback and resistance on each also varies. bass trumpet is .459, valve bone is .485, marching trombone is .500.

You might try contacting Rich Willey at

I know he has played valve trombone in big bands in the past, but he's chosen to play a Getzen bass trumpet instead for quite a while.

The Getzen valve trombone and bass trumpet (no longer made) both have a .486" bore. I'm not aware that Getzen ever made a marching trombone.

Go check out Willie Colon on Youtube. Willie is a fantastic Latin trombone player who plays slide bone but you will find many videos of him playing bass trumpet and marching trombone/flugabone. This will give you an idea of the potential of these horns.

In fact it is this horn and I have no idea whether it is a (unknown?) Getzen marching trombone or a regular Getzen bass trumpet.

That's their bass trumpet.
