I just bought a early 80's Bach 72. I found out when I got it it had a star on The bell. It is a raw bras horn with brass outer slides. My question is this a lightweight horn, or just the bell? And second question how do I know if it's a 43 leadpipe? Will it say 43 on It? Thanks

I had on of that vintage and yes, the star indicates a light weight bell. I do not recall what the lead-pipe was. Mine was a large bore .462"

That should be a light weight horn, not just the bell. A 43 usually says 43 on it I believe.

Yes, the receiver will have a 43 stamped on it. The 25 pipe is usually not stamped. And my Bach lightweight has brass slide tubing instead of the nickel tubing found on regular weight Bach’s.

The 72* is a great all-around horn. With a lead piece it will really light up. It was a favorite with NYC studio musicians in the '60's and 70's. (Bernie Glow, Al Stewart, Danny Stiles). Enjoy.

Ok so to make sure the 43 pipe would be marked as such? Mine is not marked. Is it possible I could have a ltwt horn and a standard 25 pipe? Are the 25o pipes marked? Thanks k
