I’m going to be in Paris for most of the month of October.
Any suggestions for a trumpet playing tourist to see and/or do?

Thanks,

Mark

I don't know about your trumpet, but if I was going to Paris, I wouldn't miss a trip to the Crazy Horse Saloon.

Be aware there are riots most weekends in Paris at the moment and have been for a couple of months now. Yellow Vests anti Government demonstrations.

Tons of stuff to do in Paris.. all the touriste things and keep your eyes open for concerts / clubs.
Not the peak for summer concerts but should be plenty of stuff going on. Late night clubs a plenty/live music, with some effort to find them unless you have a guide.

Avoid demonstrations, yes. But generally these are well announced and kept to an isolated area.

For a strictly musical/history thing and an excursion.. take a train to Brussels (about a 2 hour trip), eat (Mussels in Brussels) but also find the Musical Instrument Museum, then stop in Dinant on the way back for more food and drink, then visit the Adolf Sax house (yes, I know saxophones but stilll...)

I second zaferis' suggestions, and just point out that you can get magazines that contain much of this info, so check them out. Also, check out Fodor's Guide, Frommer's, or Rick Stevens' Paris.

Actually if you've got the Chutzpah, you can go to the Paris Conservatory and meet, ask and hang with some of the students.

Thanks for the ideas so far!
We're trading houses with some people, so we have a home base located between Paris and Versailles and three weeks to explore. We've been there before for a shorter amount of time and did mostly touristy things in the past. We have the Rick Steves books and have collected ideas. We generally don't travel with concrete plans, just some basic ideas and wing it, kind of like how I play.

go and visit la Maison des Metallos on rue Jean Pierre Timbaud

it was the Couesnon factory.
it's the old 94 rue d'Angouleme address now called JP Timbaud

have a coffee in their cafe

take a train out to see the new Couesnon factory out in Chateau Thierry
its not too far and they might give you a tour as they did for me

Mark, Turkle- I hate say this and it certainly is not racist but based on experience. Watch out for Gypsy kids approaching you, especially at high-trafficked tourist areas, asking for handouts or selling stuff.

They have ways of obstructing your view of your wallet, purse etc. and before you know it both the kid and the wallet will have disappeared.

Lurking near-by, but you might not notice, will be adult accomplices and they can be dangerous if need be.

This was my experience on the RER... Ploy is to distract, then pickpocket.
These folks are very skilled at their craft.

On a more positive note , let me add Musee de la Musique (19 adrissonment) as a must do.

if you can catch a ballet at l'Opera Garnier or La Bastille Opera

drop by the new Symphonia building which is right next to the La Villette and Conservatoire national

La Seine Musicale is new and pretty cool too

visit the Vandoren store on rue Lepic in the 18th

I'll be in town from november 13-22

Excursions outside of Paris especially in Autumn, are claimed as the perfect time to visit them, if time permits.

Looks like they got some good events there during Autumn.
