I was wondering know how the original Jet-Tone Flugelhorn mouthpieces are sized? As in the trumpet mouthpieces they mad does the # define the cup depth? I play a Jet-Tone Custom (21/32") and want a flugel piece of that diameter but as deep as possible. Anyone have the old flugelhorn chart? I like the C rim. _________________ Marquis de Sade: "In art, one has to kill one's father." |

You might inquire with Patrick mouthpieces, inspired by Jettone. |

You have to be somewhat careful when you are looking for original Jet-Tone mouthpieces. After Ray Amado (who was the originator of the designs) left after problems with his partner Bill Ratzenberger, the Jet-Tone's went downhill quickly. Many permutations of the "original" designs were being made and to my knowledge did not play nearly as well as the Amado originals. Ray Amado made few flugel pieces and the most common one is the Severinsen model that Getzen sold with their flugels when Doc was there. It's stamped Jet-Tone Severinsen and is a 5C diameter with a somewhat shallow cup and Bach taper shank. Later Jet-Tone models were made by many makers and today the Legends copies are the best that I've found.

many thanks I did locate a few supposedly vintage Customs (with the hyphen) ; a 3C, D and B. Also A DS B and a 4D and I have a 4C coming. I played a Custom 3C in the late 60's and the one I just got is really nice, comfortable and responsive. Once I narrow it down to 2 I will probably sell the others. I want a FH piece the same diameter as the Custom but deep but I love the C rim it is so comfortable. _________________ Marquis de Sade: "In art, one has to kill one's father." |
