The problem may be in your computer. I don't get any pop-ups.

I use an iPad, I’ve noticed these a lot lately.

Three times now this morning, TH has tried to launch background aps - malware protection is blocking. This is not good.

Constantly on my iPad. I may have to avoid this site.

I need to know how to entirely empty my bowels every morning.

What popup ads?

I use Chrome on Windows to access TrumpetHerald. I have blocked taboola after they went over my tolerance for annoying ads.

Every morning? Geeze, you'd think you'd figure it out after a week or two...

Check the options for your browser, they might be in the 'Advanced' or 'Content' sections.
Hopefully you'll find a check box that says something such as -
Allow / Prohibit Pop Ups.

I use Firefox and the setting is in - Tools / Options / Content - Block Pop Up windows .

This didn’t work on my iPad.

However, I was able to add taboola.com and *.taboola.com to the iPad’s Settings/screen time/content & privacy restrictions.

Go to content restrictions/web content.
Turn on Limit Adult Websites.
Add taboola.com and *.taboola.com to the Never Allow list.

This has worked so far for me. But I hadn’t seen these before I got my iPad back from repair mid afternoon today, so it might just be coincidence.

That said, I have no problem putting up with a few ads to help Todd offset the cost of running this site. But some of the changes over the last six months or so have crossed the line IMO.

Edit: Note, this is done at the OS level so it works with any browser on the iPad.
Edit 2: on rereading one might infer that Todd was responsible for taboola becoming more aggressive, but I am pretty sure that isn’t the case.

I tried using the IOS filtering method I posted above, but it doesn't seem to work on my iPhone. It still works on the iPad, which is back at the repair shop due to a shoddy screen replacement.

I recently started seeing those odd pop-ups on a computer other than my own but never see them on my home computer that has an ad-blocker running. Now that I think of it, I don't see them on my Android phone that uses Chrome either.

For my Safari browser, they are in the lower left corner (scroll down) and often not functioning. For Chrome, also below unless I scroll a lot then they may float up over but can be scrolled away from.

For computer, I've found the Brave browser blocks the Taboola ads and pop up windows.

For iPad, I use the Purify app with the Safari browser. It also blocks the Taboola ads at the bottom and the pop up windows.

It's an arms race. Blockers work for awhile, then they don't.

I don't mind well-behaved ads, but Taboola is too much for me.

Taboola et al are terrible. Sometimes called a "chum box."

I have both Taboola and Outbrain blocked in my router so they never appear if I'm at home. News articles on mobile sites are the worst offenders and I only see big empty white spaces now. It's always a shock when I load up Google News when I'm away from home and all the ads are back.

I highly recommend attempting to block them at the network level; there are no downsides (nothing breaks if they can't be loaded).

Certainly these ads - which I never click on - have curtailed my visits to this excellent site. There must be another way to raise funds to keep the site going. Patreon, perhaps?

I view this site from a laptop and a desktop, both of which have ad blockers installed. I have yet to have any sort of ad pop up on this site.

Can you not install an ad blocker on an iPad?

Take care,
