I just wanted to tell everyone about my experience with trumpet craftsman, Ron Glynn, and his company, Benchmark Music. I recently purchased one of his hand-made C trumpets and I feel like I took a big risk in doing so. There's almost no information online except for social media. I'd seen his instruments come up for sale in the past and they always looked great but I was saving up for a Schilke S22CHD. It took a lot of conversation with Mr. Glynn before I had the confidence to purchase one of his horns. He crafts almost everything in house from bells and valves to leadpipes and braces; not springs, water keys, or stop screws but he does stamp his own neoprene washers... so that's pretty much everything. Admittedly, his craftsmanship is a HUGE part of what convinced me. There's next to no one doing what he's doing and, for me, it was a good opportunity to invest in craftsmanship.
When the trumpet arrived, it was well packed and shipped without damage. His designs are very unique while still looking like a trumpet and the finger buttons are particularly lovely. It's a very responsive horn with a rich core to the sound, which is even through the scale with no stuffiness above the staff. The slotting is excellent and the valves are quick. I don't fight the horn like I would others.
I had the opportunity yesterday to try it out next to a Bach 2229/25H, Bach Philly, Bach Chicago, and Yamaha NYSIII. My Benchmark outplayed everyone!
It's not easy to take the leap of faith but I definitely made the right choice. I hope this helps anyone looking for more information. Mr. Glynn was honest and incredibly helpful. Check him out if you're in the market. _________________ Kevin |

I follow his social media pages and he lives relatively close to me. He used to be a trumpet maker at Schilke. His instruments look amazing. True craftsmanship. I'll eventually be purchasing one! _________________ Brian Ferguson

So these 2 posts made me curious enough to look for Benchmark Music's website. Couldn't find it. (I might be having a tough morning.)
Could either of the posters above help me out and post this guy's website?
Thanks,
Jerry |

Thanks for looking.
I don't have a Facebook account either.
I'll need a good ole WWW Benchmarkmusic or something.
Ferg825, would you let him know that old geezers like me need a website, unless he doesn't want to do business with old geezers. |

There's no website that I know of. I'll try to post a photo if I can get around to it. FWIW, I own s/n 108. I don't know if that's for all trumpets or just C. He also makes piccs and natural trumpets. _________________ Kevin |

For those familiar with trumpets built by the late Paul Jeninga (RIP) will recognize many of Benchmark trumpet parts are made using Paul’s tooling. Nice to see the tradition continues with a new generation. _________________ James Becker
