It's hard to find much of a bio on this man. Odd when I think about it as his featured solo on "Cherry Pink" kept that very tune Number 1 on the charts for over ten weeks. Making it the top tune of the year in 1955.

Year that I was born. We tend to categorize "Cherry Pink" as a Big Band era type tune. Yet in fact it occured solidly during the birth of Rock & Roll. Lol it even beat out Bill Haley's "Rock Around The Clock"

And info on Regis is much appreciated.

When you get close to the end of this youtube (2:00) the short bio of Regis becomes fully readable. He clearly had some chops.

I've encountered the same vacuum when looking for info on him, there's basically nothing.

My little band had a regular Saturday night teen dance gig around 1955 and 1958, the time when Cherry Pink was popular and it became a staple for us.
The kids loved it.

I found this thread in my own bio search and wanted to share some results:

https://cdnc.ucr.edu/cgi-bin/cdnc?a=d&d=DS19880225.2.53&e=-------en--20--1--txt-txIN--------1

That's his Obit; I found it under his "real" name Billy Roeder

What an incredible trumpet player.

Thanks for posting this - good find, never knew Billy Regis was a stage name.

Haven't been on TH for a while, but happened upon this thread while looking up info on Billy Regis. So, for the record, and for people interest in his bio, you can add that sometime during '57 or '58, he ran face first into a tree while snow skiing, and really smashed his chops. I don't know how long he was down, but he was my teacher at the time and I had to find a new teacher. After Billy I took lessons for about a year before my family moved out of the area from Bob DiVall. Anyway, I think all of us young trumpet guys did our best with Cherry Pink. I know it was fun to play, and we could really get into it.
