Over the past 48 hours a number of colleges, universities, and secondary schools have made announcements (including my own) that they would be closing all in-person classes for the next few weeks. In some cases - the remainder of the semester.

This has left many educators and students scrambling to figure out how to teach or learn online.

Many of those teachers know that I have been teaching online since 2008 and have come to me for suggestions.

I know there's threads already of trumpet instructors that teach over Skype, but I thought it might be helpful if we could list some resources for educators and students?

One of the most requested subjects for educators reaching out to me regarding online instruction (beyond 1-on-1 Skype lessons) has been improvisation.

I have a number of thoughts on how you can go about doing it, but the resource I've been pointing them to is my online school I have setup on Teachable. There's a few other platforms that you can use (like Thinkific, Udemy, etc).

On my online school you get access to my books, video courses, PDF's, backing tracks, etc for only $39/month. Which is less than what most teachers charge for a single lesson. It makes access affordable for many. I have the link below for any interested in checking it out

What other resources would you recommend to those now finding themselves needing to teach virtually?

Smart Music, Noteflight, and Sight Reading Factory are all offering free subscriptions for teachers/students that have been shut down.

I’d recommend using free resources, and not using a global pandemic as an excuse to make a quick buck.

I saw that Smart Music was doing that, but hadn't heard about Noteflight and Sight Reading Factory yet. Thanks for the info.

And astadler - absolutely use free when they're available.

It was a very productive period for me. I learned more than I did in class. I have revised my views on how useful online learning can be because I had a lot more time to study than before. I even managed to write a paper about modern composers using https://edubirdie.com/research-paper-editing-service as I hadn't had time enough time before. I think universities should rethink their views on online learning. It can be useful to many.

i always have so much to work on that years could go by without needing another lesson or tweak. for those with a different situation, don't worry about it, this thing will blow over.

Both of my daughter's school districts use Zoom.

I think that Zoom would be useful to you. We conduct our online classes on zoom, and so far, we have not found worthy alternatives. Even though teachers do their best to keep students' knowledge at a decent level, online classes cannot compare with traditional classroom activities. Unfortunately, I find it hard to concentrate at home, so I use WritingJudge and use their reviews to find the most suitable writing service. If it were not for the help that they give me, I would not have been able to maintain a decent educational level.
