What a magnificent tone on the flugelhorn. Beautiful etude, handled with such finesse.
Merry Christmas and thank you for all these musical gifts.

Thanks for the encouragement. After tomorrow’s post, I will be taking some time off, and when I return, I think I’m going to focus less on volume and more on quality as we start heading back towards normalcy. I’ve developed a couple of bad habits and inefficiency, and I’m going to iron some of that out along the way. So, once I hit 300, I will most likely dial it back to 2-3 etudes/week instead of 6-7.

Happy Holidays, everyone!

Episode #266

The longer, LA Phil version: https://www.laphil.com/about/watch-and-listen/regina-harris-baiocchis-miles-per-hour-with-jim-wilt

The slightly shorter, unofficial version: https://youtu.be/8dKzgEwrTFo

I'd like to acknowledge David Koch, whose own version of this inspired the video concept of mine.

I apologize for the unfortunate link that was auto-generated by YouTube, but...

One of the best parts about being a musician is getting a chance to meet and collaborate with people from all over the world. Though the pandemic has severely curtailed our ability to do so, creative folks will always find a workaround. I am grateful to be associated with such excellent people and musicians. A huge thank you to Chris Smith and Tim Saeger for putting all of this together, and to Wes Nance for writing such a beautiful arrangement. Merry Christmas to all who celebrate, and a safe, happy holiday season to everyone!

Ahhh! Listening to your so delicate attacks is such a pleasure. The ease, the so natural flow of tones! The melody comes out like a fine rain. Sorry for the metaphor but what else to say!
I guess you have practiced a lot

Thanks, Charlie. This was actually recorded a little over a months ago. I did take some time off of recording and started back up yesterday, but you won’t hear that for another 30 days or so (Chaynes 6). I have about 30 in the bank, which brings me to 300. Starting now, I am going to be a little more mindful of quality and actually work on these a bit before I try to record. They may not be appreciably better, but it will allow me to play things that are a little more challenging instead of picking stuff I think I can learn and record in an hour or two.

Great to see the etudes back! As usual, wonderful playing here brightening up the new year.
I know Franz 29 etudes and 10 etudes, but where does this etude 39 come from?

This was just wonderful. Lovely piece of music, so beautifully handled. Your leaps and soft landings were so great to hear. You really are a master of lyrical music.

I’m sure it’s not the original number, but rather the number in the compilation from which it came. I do not own the original etudes.
