Quarantine:
We are thinking of all of our friends out there who are struggling and wish you all peace! Stay healthy and vigilant!
In an effort to keep me a bit busy while we all figure out the new telecommuting world I have recently started a new project of recording some of my favorite songs. I hope this brings you some smiles and brightens your day a bit.
As always these are first takes. It’s a way of keeping me honest and in the shed!
Here’s Body and Soul on Clark Terry’s Olds Flugel (one of his backups I bought many years ago) and his mouthpiece which he gave me in 1996:
If you have a request please share it in this thread.
The shop is open for mail orders but due to the stay-at-home order in KC we might be delayed a bit in the shipments. Reach out to us anytime if you have questions via phone or email. www.austincustombrass.biz _________________ As of 1/1/2022 ACB will no longer post online here nor monitor TH.

How about "Everything happens to me"?
BTW - is there a piece of equipment you can't play?
You got it I'll put that in the queue!
Since this was a second take because I forgot to turn on my recording mic I'd say I have plenty of problems with tech equipment!
Hope you enjoy today's request which was from a friend who's struggling. While it's not my favorite tune I wanted to boost their spirits! Gear on this one is the Coppernicus and a MV3C-FX mpc. Almost no post production on the horn mic except a tiny bit of reverb.

Been a bit of time but here's a new vid for people to check out if inclined:
To follow up my earlier $200 vs $9000 horn comparison here's my newest horn in my personal collection Byron Autrey's old 1958 Reynolds Hi-Fi Cornet (which I purchased for $400) Hope you enjoy a first take on Donna Lee, one of my favorite songs!
This horn certainly isn't nearly as easy to play as my Coppernicus and A1 but I love the funky and fun sound! There are some audio sound gremlins in this one but since this is informal I decided to let it go.
TA1-B cornet mouthpiece for the gearheads who have made it reading this far
ew vid for people to check out if inclined:
As I was walking the dogs a few days ago I realized my driveway is very wide and would make a great place for an outdoor session. Plenty of room to be very far apart and still play together! I have played a few times for our neighborhood solo as well as a social distancing parade and they are excited for the prospect of a concert!
We’d love for you to tune in live and hang with us for a few minutes! We’ll even have some special surprises lined up for intermission and other times!
We will have a virtual tip jar available as my friends that are playing have been without any means of income since Covid started. Any donations will be graciously accepted.

Jason Emmond: Bass

Okay it might not be Carnegie Hall but a stage is a stage 😎 A few performance notes:
1. it was the first time running sound this elaborate outside and into an interface so the mix isn't totally spot on but we'll get it next time! The way I captured sound into an interface for a live concert mix is worth a mini-lesson in itself!
2. Equipment:
I'm using my Gen II Adams A1 trumpet with TAZ-CS mouthpiece as well as my Olds Clark Terry Model Flugelhorn with Clark's old mouthpiece (and my Ta-1 rim)
3. My trusty shop assistant and pal Kyle Lambert sat in a few times on the show (yes his mic wasn't turned on totally)
4. Our goofy intermission songs with my wife are part of a series we have been doing for friends on my personal FB page entitled Quarantine with the Austins! I hope you enjoy it!
5. Stay tuned for another one of these in the future it was very fun!
6. The tip jar is still active (and the tips go to my band who have been out of work... just put in the comments tip jar or Driveway)

Hey TH!
What's New?
Well for me I just set up my new mic (while I wait for my Barkley to get repaired) for recording. Wow it makes me sound like I don't really suck! Thanks Derek Ganong for the tip this Blue Woodpecker mic sounds incredible.
This is a very honest microphone which is good and a bit brighter than most ribbons which pairs it very well with the Trumpet IMO if you have a good acoustical treatment.
I used this fantastic BACB Trumpet and my ACB 3B mouthpiece (check out a recent video of that in the mouthpiece overview playlist).
As always first takes on these! Hope you enjoy! The shop is open for mail orders but due to the stay-at-home order in KC we might be delayed a bit in the shipments. Reach out to us anytime if you have questions via phone or email.
Cheers,

My dogs went on a quick walk with my wife yesterday so I played this 1st take for my friend Robb Stewart who restored this instrument for me. I have a longer video on YT with the details of his incredible work but this was a simple first take with my new favorite mouthpiece (our 5B). This is just my cell phone video and no external mic but I think you can hear how amazing this trumpet does sound even with that! Now that I've set up the good recording gear in the shop (due to my basement getting flooded a few days ago) I'll record it a bit more professionally when I get some time.
That double D came out super easy near the end (but I have been spending more time in the practice room lately so the chops are feeling pretty good lately).

Haven't been in the mood lately to record but I did this video to test out the Barkley mic in the shop.
I forgot to turn off the wifi so some of my notifications left little audio elements in the video. I have to set up this gear again since my my entire basement flooded and wiped out my home studio.
Olds Super Recording and ACB 5b mouthpiece for the gearheads out there:
I love this Olds Super Recording it's definitely one of the finest instruments I have ever owned. Be aware I forgot to turn off my wi-fi during the recording so there are a few digital artifacts from a few notifications I received during this.
As always 1st takes... ACB 5B mpc.

Trent,
Those do not look like Bach valves to me. What's up with the horn? Was it given new valves/ _________________ Bb: Schilke X3L AS SP, Yamaha YTR-6335S
