Similar to many others, I’ve used this time in isolation to start improving my home studio. I’ve been doing a lot of reading about different mics and equipment and am curious about the SE VR2. It’s an active ribbon and is supposed to maintain the warmth of a good ribbon with some of the highs you’d get in a condenser. From what I’ve read and heard, I’m thinking this could be a really interesting choice for recording trumpet in a studio setting. I haven’t been able to find any trumpet specific recordings though.
Does anyone have any experience with it or more info? Would love to get some opinions. Thanks! _________________ Bach 37

A friend of mine uses one in his home studio and it sounds pretty darn good on trumpet. His name is David Koch and he has a page on FB called "cookie's music" where he's been posting recordings lately with that mic and a couple others. I may have to pick one up since my cheap MXL 770 just doesn't compare as well as others i've tried _________________ Weimann Passion Bb

Thanks for the reply!
Turns out, I've seen his videos but didn't know what he was recording on. I agree he sounds pretty good and kind of confirms my suspicions that the sE VR2 is a pretty solid trumpet mic. _________________ Bach 37

I use the SE VR2 Voodoo in my home studio and LOVE it!! The best mic I've ever used outside of a high end recording studio! |
