|
|
I have a question about some of the exercises in the Colin 'Advanced Lip Flexibilities'. In the 'Lip Trilling' exercises in Vol.2 (e.g. page 25 in the Complete Book) some of the notes are bracketed and in smaller type. Does anyone know what this is supposed to indicate? I'm particularly interested in experience of anyone who might have known and/or studied with Charles Colin.
Thanks,
David |

Hello David,
Never thought about it...Figured it was just for omitting for flow or breath endurance. Following, to hear from someone who really knows... _________________ Christian K. Peters

On page 27 is something similar but without brackets.
It seems that on page 25 the bracketed 16ths may be optional or something to work toward, i.e. play them if you can but play the fermatas in every case.
After skill is gained, page 27 takes the option away.
Just my interpretation of it.
(I find rapid lip trilling easier above third space C, but with practice lip trilling lower - across wider intervals - becomes possible.) _________________ -Tom Hall-

Tom, pretty much my thinking as well. I agree with your observations on lip trilling in the different registers, also. |
