Does anyone know if it is possible to get aftermarket leadpipes for Carol Brass trumpets?

I wanted to try putting a different pipe on my CTR-4000 c trumpet as I think the leadpipe is really letting this little horn down.

Carol definitely sources parts, and you could probably write to them and ask to buy another leadpipe. That said, I'm not sure how many C leadpipes they offer. I wonder if others are compatible, for instance Bach or Yamaha.

They seem to have their own tuning slide diameter/s but if someone knows another make and model trumpet that the top leg of the tuning slide fits then that's could work.

If anyone out there it's a dealer and knows, for example, that a Bach would pair up to a Carol tuning slide, let know!

CarolBrass machines to a tighter tolerances than some other brands, and their leadpipe tapers may be different as well.

If you want to have your local shop install another leadpipe, I advise reaching out to the CarolBrass distributor for your area and ask about getting a sterling leadpipe. Sterling will add core and projection to the trumpet's sound.

On the other hand, if you want a Blackburn leadpipe, look for a used Sonare trumpet here on TrumpetHerald.

If I recall the slide legs measure .498” and fit into .500” slide receivers.

Depending on what direction you care to go, I would not hesitate to modify a Bach 25C, 25H 25A to accept your tuning slide. Otherwise swap the top tuning slide leg to match any of the above or 25R (reversed) mouthpipe.

You can PM me if you have any questions. Much would depend on which of the Carol bells is on your instrument. The last Carol C trumpet I worked on required a more appropriate bell shape, so I installed a Yamaha YMG with great success.

Check out Ken LARSON'S facebook site. He has modified both a 4000c and Bb with his pipes. Somewhere around March 19th or 20 ish post.

Still on the hunt for C trumpet leadpipes that might fit a carol brass tuning slide?

Or a Leadpipe + Tuning slide combo that will fit the bottom carol tuning slide tube.

If anyone knows, let me know!

The best I can say so far is that the slide of my Bb Kanstul fits but is a bit too loose, and the slide of my Bb Yamaha 8335II is too big.

Did you see James Becker's post? It sounds like you could try several bach c pipes and see if you like them. Some places will even let you trial them. With leadpipes you can try them before having them soldered on. Where are you located? Folk here might be able to suggest some good shops. It sounds like you're not looking for a replacement pipe, but for an improvement--is that right?

Have now popped him a message so will see what's possible there.

That's right, am looking for an upgrade option.

I think the instrument has potential but I think the leadpipe isn't well matched to the rest of the instrument. Put a reverse leadpipe and slide on it and i think we'd be in Business though

Otherwise, if anyone has a Sonare C trumpet with the Blackburn pipe or for a good price, I'll just buy that instead but haven't had any luck finding one of those

Thanks for the private message , I’ll reply shortly.

As for the Blackburn Sonare C trumpet, it was built on a B&S .462” bore C trumpet body with a Bach 239 type bell. The Blackburn Sonare C leadpipe has the same taper as the Bb, just trimmed shorter, think Bach 25A. So the closest comparison is a Bach would be C180L22925A.

My concern is regarding the bell, which is a determining factor in leadpipe selection. I can certainly provide a leadpipe to fit, but at what length? How long is the tapered portion of the existing leadpipe. The upper tuning slide length is dependent on the leadpipe taper length. And should you desire a reversed full length Bb taper, the upper tube would need to be changed any way.

Obviously all this could be addressed easily with the trumpet in my hands. Shipping is not as prohibitive as you may think.

Reviving a fairly old thread... Has anyone tried or installed an aftermarket leadpipe on their CarolBrass Bb trumpet?
