This might be the dumbest question I have ever asked, but in the SA, are we supposed to do the lip relaxer after we finish the part 2 exercises?

Yes. Do it 3x after you hit your maximum high note in part II or Systematic Approach. Then, don't touch your horn to your lips for 60 minutes..

I usually modify it slightly by playing it as written (SA Lesson 3, III) the first time, then to double pedal C the second time, and triple pedal C the third time.

That might not be as clear in the book as it could. Here's an article on my site with an example practice routine and a little more details about the elements that should be there. https://www.purtle.com/claude-gordon-practice-routines-the-brass-herald

Take a listen to the various sound files of Claude Gordon Brass Camps. Claude talks about the major points and there are some other lectures that cover practice routines, jazz improv, literature and solos. There are even some audio of Claude teaching trumpet lessons.

That page lets you sort by topic and speaker. When you are logged in you will be to see the audio play and listen.

Contact me directly if you wish.
