Hi all. I was cruising the local craigslist and found an interesting ad. It's not my ad, nor do I know the seller, in case anybody is wondering.

https://sacramento.craigslist.org/msg/d/sacramento-stradivarius-trumpet-model-37/7148166206.html

It's listed as a 37 bell, but the stamp appears to be "31". Also, it's an old New York instrument.

Anyway, I found it interesting. If the bell really is a 31, does anyone know anything about it?

The only thing I could find online about a Bach 31 bell is this cornet from 1956:http://gamonbrass.com/en/offer/cornets/855

Bach built several long cornets during the Bronx period that looked exactly like trumpets. The receiver is not visible, and could also be a replacement. The bell is a long cornet bell - the question is does it still have the original leadpipe and tapered tuning slide, or did someone "fix" it with new trumpet parts. . . . .

I seem to recall discussing a Bach trumpet with a 31 bell before ... maybe even this very horn. I haven’t found that thread yet, though.

I was reading this thread started today by Tony Scodwell that asked about the Bach Mercedes trumpet.

In that thread BFlatMan posted a link to an article by Roy Hempley and Bill Siegfried.

In the article there is a list of what components were used in the Mercedes at different times. In 1940-1942 the 31 and 37 bells are listed as being used. Later it was 37 and 38.

Not sure if this helps, but I was confused for a moment thinking Tony had asked about the 31 bell, so when I figured it out, I thought I would post here.

Is is possible this is simply a Stradivarius-branded Mercedes? Not that there's anything wrong with that...

Only way to know for sure is to get the horn, then the shop card, and compare.
