I've been doing Double High C in 37 Weeks, simply, because I can. And, also, because I've been long-time curious. I am a fan of Maggio and Spaulding's exercises are similar.
But regarding Spaulding, I'm just going crazy with not playing half of the time. So, I thought I'd go back to Maggio and The Balanced Embouchure, which combination worked well for me in the past.
But a colleague suggested I stick with Spaulding and just do it daily. After all, in his system, he also has you playing daily on the second and fourth pass through the exercise sets. What think you, who have used these methods?
Please don't answer with other systems as an alternative. I'm familiar with them. My question is basically about Spaulding and Maggio/BA. Thank you. _________________ "If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn." Bird

I though you said you’ve already got the DHC, so why the further high range development? Gotta get to the THC? Just head over to your local CBD shop for that... |

Somebody on this forum will tell you about a better system, modified by him for much better and quicker results, in only 15 inches of text. |

I had DHC before several strokes. I'm now working my way back. _________________ "If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn." Bird

I know you know the deal....so why not use this?? You know you just have to keep track of your resting, and rest the same amount you play. _________________ My go-to Trumpet and Flugel: Thane.

I think I've already had those mouthpieces but they must have been bogus. They never worked. _________________ "If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn." Bird

It depends on the individual. If your chops are not worn out playing the exercises every day then there is no harm in doing so. If you get to the point where you feel like you are tearing down instead of building up, reinsert the rest days.
Spaulding recommends that his book should be "the only source of playing" for the duration of the 37 weeks. From my perspective, if your chops feel good enough to play Spaulding's exercises every day, you'd be better off skipping the rest days and playing music on those days.
Good luck! |

I used Spaulding’s book in high school (I believe that was during the Paleolithic era 😉), but in part because I was a developing student, the every other day thing wasn’t practical. Maybe because of that, I didn’t get the DHC, but my range did go from a weak D to a solid G in about a year.
I still use the book for “maintenance practicing” today, it seems to still be useful.
