I'm trying to find some information on this rather obscure trumpet. It has been re-lacquered and obviously the bell engraving was buffed a bit too much but the engraving says top to bottom, Mercedes, Selmer with New York underneath the Selmer logo. Serial number is #43761 and the second valve slide is not on an angle but straight out. It has a stop rod on the main tuning slide facing backwards and the mouthpiece receiver is quite long, 4 1/4 inches. Finger hook and third slide hook are not like Bach but top and bottom valve caps seem to be like very early Bach NY models. Bell braces are straight similar to some Conn models. I don't believe any parts have been switched from original and the serial number doesn't seem to jive with the Bach numbers which indicated building in 1979. Pistons are nickel plated.
I sure would appreciate any input from TH'ers who might have some information.

A 43XXX Bach would be more like 1969. I dont know if the Mercedes brand was used while Bach was building at the Main St. plant in Elkhart - but certainly if it were, the secondary and trim parts would be sure to be Bach styled. I suspect it is a Mercedes bell - but on something else (cheaper and older).
Unless the Selmer part refers to the store in NYC, not the company - in which case, it might just be a very old stencil sold by Selmer and coincidentally named Mercedes.

Sounds interesting... Do you have any photos? Especially of the valve block area, curious if it matches any of the Bach Mercedes trumpet & cornet valve sections (some made by Bach, some outsourced) I have from the early 1960s before moving to Elkhart...
How does it play? _________________ ------
