All my horns are Getzens. i bought 'em, I oiled 'em. I played 'em.

No problem.

Getzen hand laps every horn. Makes for looser but more forgiving valves that will typically continue to perform reasonably if break-in is ignored (though it probably opens the tolerance a little more in the process). Its a trade-off of less tight valves for ease of ownership up front and reduced odds of something going wrong in break-in. (Personally, I like tight valves though and am willing to work for them - my best Getzen needs a diaper for its drippy over-gapped valves).

This is the second time you have referenced our hand lapped valves being loose. I don’t know how many pistons you have lapped, but proper lapping does not equal loose pistons. I won’t get into to every detail, but every step along the way of crafting a piston is intended to reach the proper size at the end. The piston blank OD, piston turning, plating layer, honing, and lapping. All of our trumpets are air tested at the end of the line to ensure the tightest fit possible. Well that’s not entirely true, we have made them tighter. So tight in fact that oiling them caused them to stick. There was enough space between the piston and the casing for the oil.

I think our piston’s reputation speaks for itself.

Like I do with my cars, I just followed my owner's manual. No mention of borderline OCD cleaning.

Any oil/water that escaped via the bottom caps I analyzed down to two factors: over-oiling and not screwing the caps on snugly enough. No diapers needed.
