Hello everyone, maybe someone can help me out, I do most of my practice late at night like 1 or 2 a.m so I really need a mute that can really mute or silence the sound ,I've tried the electronic mutes and those really expensive ones and they just don't work, maybe someone has come across one brand that really works for that type of situation like mine, Thank You |

If you don't need it to be dead quiet, I'm fond us just practicing with a Harmon/Bubble mute, stem removed. It's unlikely to wake the neighbors but could annoy folks in the same house. _________________ "I'm an engineer, which means I think I know a whole bunch of stuff I really don't."

In my experience (I haven't tried the Wallace) - the mute you're talking about doesn't exist.
All practice mutes suck. Some suck less by having decent intonation or less resistance, but are usually a bit louder - and they still sound like crap. The electronic ones help the sound by processing in some resonance while being quite, but are still resistant.

Kudos to the late Bill Dishman for the above chart.
I have an old H&B Manny Klien, it's alright but a bit stuffy.
I blew on the ProTec Liberty, wasn't too bad.
I didn't like the Wick or the Jo-Ral at all.
I own a Hickman Sotto Voce, haven't used it a ton, didn't buy to as a practice mute. _________________ LA Benge 3X Bb Trumpet

It's their practice studio mute. It might make things tolerable for the other four in the house. _________________ My go-to Trumpet and Flugel: Thane.

Anything other than open sound and playing freely will suck, and I don't think is good to always practice in a harmon mute or any other mute, but I understand the problem and have experienced myself (the urge to play at 11 pm is no joke).
I use a cheap renuzit home made mute that is way better than a bach practice mute.
Another option I have been considering is building a cheap mute tube which I found very detailed descriptions in TH if I remember correctly. The basic Idea is building a tube or cone big enough to fit the bell of the trumpet inside, and stuff it with isolating foam. Here is a link of a "pro mute tube" for a reference:
http://www.mute-tube.com/en/mute-tube-shop/mute-tube-basic-komplett-set
best.

I orded a Wallace and they got back to me saying that during the Corona Virus period, they would not be processing any orders.
I was going to post that Dishman list also. I am in a situation where any sound leakage is frowned on. I use a Best Brass mute.
BTW, in my experience, a harmon mute is louder than many on Dishman's list. _________________ "If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn." Bird

Trumcor Lyric Stealth is a pretty nice blowing mute. It's pretty darn quiet with much better intonation than many. I don't own one but the one I tried felt pretty alright to play on. Lots of others feel kind of lousy.

I have had the best luck with the Eazy Bucket Trumpet Silencer:
https://www.dillonmusic.com/eazy-bucket-trumpet-silencer-mute/
I use it when I travel. It is about the quietest mute I have been able to find that does not distort too badly.
There was another thread here that posted a site with comparisons of practice mutes. cheiden posted the following.

Good information. The Eazy Bucket Silencer scores very high here. _________________ Bb: Schilke X3L AS SP, Yamaha YTR-6335S

I can't remember disagreeing with cgaiii, but I had that mute and as I remember it, while it wasn't loud, it had a buzz that was penetrating so I quit using it. _________________ "If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn." Bird

Thank you for this. Looks like the Best Brass Warm Up mute is the king with all 10s. Sadly, I had that mute, and I didn't feel that way. It was a REALLY good mute but I prefer the Wallace (so I sold the BB). _________________ My go-to Trumpet and Flugel: Thane.

I don't think you can get a Wallace during the Corona. If any one finds a source and the source has more than one, please let me know. Thanks. _________________ "If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn." Bird

I know someone who bought one about a month or so ago from a listing on Reverb. It is a listing from a music store and they still have them according to the listing. Just search for Wallace practice mute when you get to Reverb. _________________ Van Laar B6

No, don't remember disagreeing. I think I bought it based on that chart. It gets all 10s.
I do not have any trouble with buzzing. I have used it in a lot of hotel rooms without any problem. I think I even got away with a short careful session when my wife was asleep. I wonder if the buzz you got depends on the trumpet. _________________ Bb: Schilke X3L AS SP, Yamaha YTR-6335S

The Eazy Bucket Silencer is the other one that gets all 10s, but as you can see above YMMV. I chose between the two because of price. _________________ Bb: Schilke X3L AS SP, Yamaha YTR-6335S
