Currently digging the hell out of my 1905 Frank Holton New Proportions short model. This is truly my favorite line from Holton, and this 1905 is just a great example. It came with a Holton #10 cookie cutter which I’m in love with. Sounds great in all my cornets. It makes them all light up without any effort

@jhatpro: I purchased a DelQuadro a while back - one of his old models with the heavy bracing - #11 stamped on it - built with an Olds Ambassador valve block.

It's a nice sounding horn, easy to play- the Copper Bell has a great sound and gives it a gorgeous tone.

I am deciding if I am going to sell it or not as I am struggling with metal intolerances - have just changed to Acrylic mouthpieces - so need to be exceptionally careful when handling the raw brass / copper not to touch the mouthpiece. Currently experimenting with how careful I need to be.

Was always on my bucket list to try a copper horn - certainly no disappointment there.

My fav is always the horn I'm playing at the moment. And moments before I began this reply it was a 1946 Conn 22B with a Pilczyuk/Acusonic step leadpipe. Such a sweet horn!

This is a very interesting topic. I have several "favorites" because they all play differently!

(1) 1940 Martin Handcraft Committee in #3 Large Bore. This horn is identical to Chris Botti's except his is a 1939 and mine a 1940. These horns, in excellent playable condition are exceedingly rare, and I would not part with mine for any price. This instrument features the rich, robust, dark tone that the vintage Committees are known for, and the Handcraft is a lighter horn that I find to be extremely versatile. The nickel silver valves on this now 81 year old instrument are quieter and smoother than those of any brand new instrument I own! I do not take this horn out of the house often. It is simply too valuable and could be too easily stolen. I always record with this horn, and I play it in very select live venues, and every day at home. It is magnificent!

(2) Calicchio Large Bore lightweight 3/7. This instrument is extremely versatile, very light, and has the sparkling bell and sound that vintage Calicchios are well known for. This instrument helps to produce the clearest pure sound and is delightful to play.

(3) Schilke HC-1 is 24K Gold Plate. This instrument features the original design work done by Reynold Schilke for the Martin Committee, and, like all Schilkes, is built meticulously and with great care. Although it sounds and responds a lot like the Committee Handcraft, and is a .468 large bore instrument, it has a deep bell throat and a little more sparkle in its sound than that of the vintage Committees. And in 24K gold plate - it is a museum piece to look at!

(4) LeBlanc Paris Large Bore Al Hirt model. This is a large .468 bore instrument under the LeBlanc Paris name that was meticulously built and finished by Antoine Courtois in Paris. The instrument is lightweight, easy to play, very versatile, and has a gorgeous sound!

Hi Richard I see you are from MD. Some years back I was the "stand in" lead trumpeter w/the jazz big band that played at the One-Step Down club in Georgetown & i was also the lead player w/the Latin Fire Band, as well as the lead for many of DCs "broadway" musicals. I played a lot w/John Blount; a great high-note player w/Navy Commodores. Anyway; I agree w/your choice of great horns, however, I also note that you have a Monette Prana horn. I tried one of the first Monettes at Chuck Levin's many years ago & LOVED it. What is your take on these? You can Pm me if you like.....

In no particular order ...
- I've a large bore Bel Canto 59 with a red brass bell that is the best horn I've ever owned.
- Bel Canto CXL that is a joy to play
- Adams F1 Flugel

I recently bought an Olds Recording from the LA factory, built around 1951. It plays very nearly as well as my Super Recording.

Incidentally, I now have a 1967 Recording for sale. Can't justify keeping it.

I agree with the comments by Richard Harris about the Leblanc Al Hirt model trumpet.

I just purchased an original example in essentially new condition and it displays excellent workmanship and is beautifully finished in a rich, golden lacquer. The intricate chasing on the slide ferrules, valve caps and buttons adds a touch of luxury. I enjoy just holding it and looking at it.

While a large bore instrument, I do not find the Leblanc tiring to play. It slots very well and the sound it produces is both lush and powerful. Frankly, I was taken aback by how lovely (for me) it plays and how beautiful it sounds.

While it won't replace my Destino 5* trumpet as my best-ever instrument, I could happily live out my days with only this wonderful Al Hirt Leblanc to play.

I just received a nearly brand new Kanstul 1500.

It is the best horn I've ever touched. I am just beginning to play again after a couple years of not playing...had been rudely fired as a church worship leader over something that was definitely not any fault of my own...hated music for awhile...stopped listening.

My other horn is a Kanstul "F. Besson International USA" stamped trumpet with the K stamped on the bell. I understand some have claimed on these forums that Kanstul never stamped horns as "F. Besson International USA" but I have a nearly mint one as living proof.

I used to play hooky from work and play test New Bel Cantos in 86 - 88. Don't be jealous! My #59 was a new purchase in 2015ish. I just unpacked the CXL this week, it too is a new horn. Dick and Bryan Morgan are making GREAT horns still. I'm not sure how many parts are left from 'back in the day'.

My Schilke S32HDG, best slotting horn I have EVER played, and it is a blast to play! With the right mouthpiece it will work in just about any setting!

My two favorites are my Schilke B5 and my Scodwell Las Vegas model. Both are very mouthpiece sensitive, allowing for the use of either in a variety of playing situations.

I would have to say that my favorite or go to "trumpet" is my 54 Martin Committee Cornet. Easiest for me to play and sounds great to me.
#2 Would be my 52 Conn Connstellation 28-B. That is the trumpet that I have had longest and kind of fits like a glove.
Currently I have been playing my Getzen Eterna Classic 900s the most and I love it... Like others have said... they are ALL very different so have to keep searching for the next favorite!
