|
|
Hi All,
I'm presently using a monette b2s3, with a matching flugel mouthpiece. I keep both in a wolfpack double mouthpiece case as they don't fit in the holder in my trumpet case very well. I practice at both work and home. Last night on arriving home I discovered I had misplaced the mouthpiece case. It may be lying somewhere around the house or it may have been dropped etc. I went back into work and it wasn't there. I'll spend a few days trying to find it and then will need to order another.
In the meantime I'm not sure what to use to practice until I find it. I was going to use the kanstul m6 which is the monette b6 so that I'll still be playing on a short shank but it's a fair bit different in cup diameter and depth than my monette (the b2s3 is approximately a bach 1 1/4C according to monette).
I'm not sure I like the effect the b6 has on my sound (although it felt more secure and I had a bigger range when i used it - but I expected that, especially for the first use)
Is it more important to stick to the short shank or to keep something with a width and depth closer to the b2s3?
The options I have at home are as follows
Bach 3b
Bach 2 1/2C
Bach 5v
bach 1 1/2 C (newer with the big writing)
Giardinelli 7M
Kanstul b6.
Bach 5C Megatone
Happy to receive recommendations.
cheers

I have a small set of mouthpieces. Every once in a while I pull them all out and run through them to see if I still like the one I'm using the best. This is your opportunity. |

Just grab a Bach 1 1/4C until you find or replace your Monettes. _________________ so many horns, so few good notes... |

This rang true for me. A few weeks ago during a practice session I was feeling and sounding better than usual. We all have those good and bad days, so I just thought it was one of those good days. Then when switching to my cornet and attempting to unscrew the Schilke 14 rim from the Schilke 20 bowl mouthpiece I thought "Hey, this thing is stuck." then "Hey! This is not my custom mouthpiece, it's a standard Schilke 14!" So I've been playing it ever since and the "good" days have continued. _________________ Phil M.

Yeah, sometimes it's fun to play different mouthpieces. Go for it. It won't take that long to get used to a longer shank for a little bit! |

If it were me, I'd just give Monette a call, ask them what a good but cheap emergency alternate they would recommend is until I find the Monett mouthpieces. _________________ "If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn." Bird

Look inside your car again. You might find your mouthpiece case. _________________ C. G. Conn 60B Super Connstellation

I did better than that. I found the mouthpiece case at work with both Monettes. It had been pushed under the computer screens and obstructed from view by the multiple layers of crap on my desk.
That’s $500 AUD that I won’t have to spend - or explain to my better half. |

The yamaha 16e4 is said to be around the bach 1 1/2c size but very deep cup
The yamaha 17b4 is the bach 1 1/4 equivalent
Both these pieces cost around 60 aus dollars
Maybe they are worth exploring if you are looking for inexpensive emergency backup pieces that dont break the bank.
The 16e4 is a fabulous piece for the money and well worth a blow
I can only imagine the 17b4 is similar and may be better for you than the 16e4 would |
