My daughter put a very small dent in the first valve and it would stick. I made a mandrel and with a couple of light taps the valve is free.
She can play the lower notes as before, all valves working fine, but she is struggling to get to the higher notes she could reach before.
It may be two months since she played, any suggestions?

Decreased high range is likely just lack of recent practice.
Also do a basic 'air pressure test' of all valve combinations on the trumpet.
A rough test for air leakage problems is to oil the valves with a heavy oil such a Mineral Oil from drug store - the thick oil will give a much better 'air seal' around the valves, but of course the valve action will be sluggish. After testing, clean the pistons and cases, and oil with the regular valve oil.

The Mineral Oil can also be used straight as a slide oil.

KNOW (see) what the next note is BEFORE you have to play it.
PLAY the next note 'on time' and 'in rhythm'.
Oh ya, watch the conductor - they set what is 'on time'.

I just went for a run after not running for several months. I was pretty tired after about a block. Any suggestions?

Try it again without the mask?

Today’s winning comment!
First prize is a P Trumpet! Second prize is still up for grabs, (second prize is TWO P Trumpets).😉

Low hanging fruit living in the California Bay Area. I did my daily five mile walk with a mask during the orange haze days. I ended up with an irritated throat and was mildly sleepy the whole walk.

To be clear, I hate running, I bike. I just biked for an hour and a half - sometimes with a mask, as I pull it up when there are people around.

I was making a point of the absurdity of "my daughter is having trouble with high notes after not playing for several months." Well, duh.

Bit toxic in here.
I know a bit about metalwork, and nothing about trumpets.
I only had what my daughter was telling me to go on. She was sure it was the trumpet and not her.
To the original posters thank you again.
