Not sure if this is the perfect place for this post, but I just want to give KUDOs to Jim Becker at Osmun Music. I've been a fan (customer) of his since about 1996, I think, and he just recently worked another miracle on a horn for me and without going into a lot of detail, I highly recommend him if you need any major work done on your horn.
In fact, speaking of a lot of detail, he sent me an email that went into great detail letting me know the pains they went through to "get it right" with this horn, and I'm telling you what, if Jim's not the best in the business, he's easily one of the top three in the business.
So, I just wanted to publicly thank you, Jim, and spread the word about the amazing work you do, your conscientious attention to detail and your insistence on "getting it right" every time you take on a project, which mine really was.
Thanks, Jim! You da man! _________________ Puttin’ On The Ritz |

Hey Rich!
I couldn't agree more. Even after moving 1100 miles away from Massachusetts I still bring my horns in to have work done when we're in the area visiting family. Jim ALWAYS does an awesome job! _________________ Christopher Rymes

+1.
I make a 2-hour drive up to Osmun annually to have my horns' preventive maintenance done.
Jim has never once tried to upsell me on anything and in fact once advised me that a rebuild on an older horn would not be worth the money. That alone earns my trust.
And the Concord battlefield and Walden Pond are just minutes away. A great New England day trip. |

Rich, it’s been my pleasure to do the work.
Knowing how special these vintage Conn 5G valve trombones* are to those that play them, it was well worth the effort to get it right.
Thanks so much for your repeat business and referral!
*As played by Bob Brookmeyer and Rob McConnel. The Conn 5G was discontinued by UMI in the mid-1980’s, favoring the King 2166 3B. Though a quality instrument, the King has a smaller .481” bore. The Conn has a .500” bore and 6H bell, allowing discerning players to produce “that sound”. _________________ James Becker

Bob was the guy who recommend this horn to me way back in '84 or '85, can't remember just when. As you know, I got hold of one once, which you resurrected, and then like a dummy I let it go around 2001 or so when I was in some financial trouble and regretted letting it go.
Now I have another one, and thanks to you, it's every bit the player that my first one was, so lookout world!

Jim's work is stellar, I've had him work extensively, on several horns. But while we're on the subject, a shout out should go to support staff, who communicate clearly and rapidly. They make everything a breeze. _________________ "If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn." Bird

I've had two Bb trumpets Blueprinted by Mr. Becker with excellent results. I also had valves replaced at Osmun but I don't know who did the work. Maybe Jim, maybe someone else. Either way, they were perfect. Solid work. _________________ Kevin |

Thank you Kevin for your kind words.
Our team of four have their specialties. The owner, Bob Osmun makes mouthpieces and piccolo leadpipes, performs mouthpiece alterations. Tom Cote oversees the daily business operations and sales. Jim Engele performs brass and woodwind repairs, with a focus Horn restoration and rotor valve rebuilding. And I do all manner of brass repair from trumpets to tubas, with my focus on trumpet blueprinting and piston rebuilding. That pretty sums up our little shop in a nutshell. _________________ James Becker
