I transcribed this interview from a recording sent to me by the interviewer, Bruce Duffie. It is not up on his website. Please enjoy!

Hi, nice interview. I got to meet Rolf years ago when I attended a master class at U Mass in Amherst MA ( I was a music major at Holyoke Community College). He was a great player, answered our questions, played great, and was nice guy. I saw him perform several years later with the Empire brass quintet and witnessed some great trumpet and quintet playing. He left us way too soon.

Hey "Tubbs",

Thanks for transcribing and posting this! Fascinating. No trumpet player interview I would rather read.

Thanks for this transcription. That was a good bit of work, and I appreciate the effort. I loved this line:

"One day, your muscles and your lips and everything feels perfect. Then the next day, you may have trained exactly the same way, and it feels entirely different."

Yes! Glad that I’m not the only one who feels like this. I’m working on a Sam Pilafian one next.
