|
|
Hi everyone. I bought some cheap microfiber rags to clean my horn and they are made of some awful material that I think might mar the finish. Right in the trash they go.
What microfiber - or other cheap rags - are you using to clean your horns? Amazon links appreciated...

Scratches usually come from the dirt in the cloths, not the cloths themselves. Wash when you get them and frequently as you use them. _________________ "After silence, that which best expresses the inexpressible, is music" - Aldous Huxley |

The other thing is that these pilled up really easily and I didn't want lint in my valves.
I think maybe microfiber isn't the best idea and I'd be better off with just cotton shop towels. They're cheap enough, I suppose I'll just order some and see what happens... _________________ Yamaha 8310Z trumpet

I use 2 types. The last batch I purchased are these suede microfiber cloths. They're working out great for general cleaning tasks on my horns. They're fairly large, at 40x40 cm (16x16 inches).

I also use these smaller microfiber cloths to swab out my valve casings and for other cleaning tasks in tight areas.

I have had good luck with these:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00C924HA6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The best one I ever had was a really big one that I got from a glasses shop in Japan, but it disappeared somehow, much to my chagrin.
They can be washed and reused. _________________ Bb: Schilke X3L AS SP, Yamaha YTR-6335S

I guess all things are relative but, I don’t consider a 8” x 8” square cloth to be “extra large” as the linked ad states. That is about the size of most of the micro fiber cloths I have.
The last micro fiber cloths I purchased were from Costco. |

Thanks for all the helpful suggestions, everyone. I think I like the Ultra-Pure one because it's huge. Appreciate it! _________________ Yamaha 8310Z trumpet

Agreed. These were a little small, but still useful. I see there are some 15" ones out there, and they might be better. _________________ Bb: Schilke X3L AS SP, Yamaha YTR-6335S

Costco microfiber cloths are the same size, I just measured mine, and only cost 60 cents each.
You do need to buy 30 at a time, but there are many uses for microfiber cloths.

A word of warning about microfibers: I learned from my optometrist that they can and will become abrasive if you launder them. Has something to do with picking up lint in the dryer. As inexpensive as they are, I think use carefully and discard when dirty is the approach. |

What a great idea! For only $525 one can make approximately 34 cleaning cloths.
Although the coverlet at the link doesn’t appear to be micro fiber. |

I went with Costco. They're practically giving them away over there.
Anyway, I now have a lifetime supply of microfiber rags if anyone needs one... _________________ Yamaha 8310Z trumpet

Or just hand wash them under the faucet in the kitchen sink. |
