A playable work of art!
A Longer show-and-tell will be coming on this horn for sure once I get a few days to play it and enjoy it but I just had to share some beautiful pictures our assistant Patrick took of this horn! Here are some of the custom features:
Custom 6% upturned bell
Bell is made of entirely pure sheet sterling silver
.45 thickness
Copper Plated
exquisitely hand-engraved
So very thankful for all of my friends and artists at Adams brass who continue to raise the bar with their works of art!

Boy, there's switch; copper-plated solid silver.
Beautiful, Trent. It's lacquered as well, right?

Yes it's lacquered to prevent oxidation. Overall a total pain in the butt finish! _________________ As of 1/1/2022 ACB will no longer post online here nor monitor TH.

Amazing horn. I would be curious as to why you did what you did with the bell, the plating, etc. Also want to hear more of it. I bet you will still sound like Trent Austin, at least I hope so. _________________ Bb: Schilke X3L AS SP, Yamaha YTR-6335S

I also have a sheet silver bell by Taylor on an Eclipse Enigma. They have a very special sound and playing character don’t you think? Mine has a rimless bell and at no point does the sound break up and they project like crazy allowing me to back down considerably. Other than cost which is a big point, why do you think these became a bit out of style after King and Reynolds? I think they are far superior to brass.
Thanks,
Rod

Very cool Trent...will this replace the Olds Super Recording as your favorite horn?
Yes. This and my Adams A1 will be my two primary Bb's. I'm actually going to sell off a lot of my collection as I'm trying to be a bit more dedicated to having a smaller collection. I couldn't put this horn down yesterday!
Best,

Rod,
Andy makes fantastic bells and I'm sure can attest to just what a PITA it is to make a sheet silver bell. The horn is much more alive and also thicker when played softly. It's really an amazing combination. We have found in the shop that people are either really into Sterling or dislike it greatly. I think that part of the reason folks tend not to like Sterling (besides the obvious costs involved) is the fact sometimes Sterling has a tendency to accentuate certain less desirable sound artifacts in one's playing.
My computers have all seemed to kick the bucked at the same time but I have a new one on order and once I get all my good video gear up I will share some vids of the horn (and a comparison to a horn w/o a Sheet Sterling Bell).
Best,

Well, it does look really cool and given the many unique aspects (design, copper plating, silver bell) I can only imagine it'll sound very unique too.

FWIW I did a bit of a low-fi play test yesterday on the shop FB page and once my new computer comes in (my trusty computer from a decade ago has finally waved the white flag) I'll record with better audio and video!
Here's the link if anyone wants to check out the archive:

The above encoded message has been received. I know it was meant for me. I have been targeted. I'm good with that. May the negotiations begin.

Oh, yeah. I was lucky enough to get a fabulous 1942 Buescher True Tone 400 from Trent's collection. There had to be a good reason for Trent to have it in his personal collection and now I know why. It is now the favorite in my small collection. _________________ GeorgeB

Man what a trumpet that is! That was a super tough sell but I am so happy you love it. _________________ As of 1/1/2022 ACB will no longer post online here nor monitor TH.

I am just happy you decided to let it go from your collection. I can't thank you enough. _________________ GeorgeB

Hey Trent,
I just saw a picture of Al Hirt's Chistmas album cover and he looks to be holding a copper plated trumpet, can't tell for sure. Any inspiration from that for yours? _________________ Bb: Schilke X3L AS SP, Yamaha YTR-6335S
