Inherited from a friend. Publication date 1934. Still relevant and nice progression from very easy to a bit complex. Great for focusing on tone, articulation, counting!
Love the instructor's notes.

I took lessons from a pro player in 1953 who used a Trumpet/Cornet Tutorial by Everette James ( father of Harry James ), which I had to purchase. It contained all the necessities to enable one to play the trumpet properly. It was the foundation to 12 years of playing ( 1953-1965 ) with a small 5 piece combo. But I didn't touch the horn between 1965 up to March 8, 2016, the latter being the year and date I made my comeback at the age of 79.
Take a guess at what trumpet tutorial I used for my comeback. Yep, the very vintage Everette James textbook. It had me playing first chair with a community band by September, 2016.

I started on Rubank back in 1981. My favorite record the next year was Donald Fagen's "The Nightfly." A lyric from that is "I hear you're mad about Brubeck." I lived in 1980's rural South Carolina, so I had no idea who Brubeck was. I thought he sang "Rubank" and that it was so bitchen that Fagen knew about my method book. |

For sure. My copy of the Everette James Trumpet/Cornet Tutorial has taken a beating over the years. Copyright info was on the inside page of the cover which separated from the binding probably during the many moves I made over the years, and has since disappeared, but there are pictures of a very young Harry James depicting how the horn should be held, etc. I'm guessing the textbook was published probably sometime in the late 20s or very early 30s.
